The Carnaval de Barranquilla, one of the largest and most vibrant festivals in Colombia, is a dazzling celebration of cultural diversity, music, and dance. Held annually in the port city of Barranquilla, it typically takes place in the days leading up to Ash Wednesday.
This carnival is a UNESCO Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, reflecting a blend of African, Indigenous, and European influences. Its main events include La Batalla de Flores (The Battle of Flowers), a colorful parade with elaborate floats, traditional costumes, and lively music, and La Gran Parada (The Great Parade), where folkloric groups showcase traditional dances like cumbia and mapalé.
